Upon completing her degree at La Trobe University, Sonal commenced her career as an occupational therapist at Elsternwick Private Hospital, Victoria. She then spent more than six years working in the UK as an occupational therapist, her leaving role being in Acute Adult Mental Health Services at Hillingdon Hospital.
Sonal returned to Australia and has built on her career through a variety of roles including working as part of a continuing care team, case managing adults with severe and enduring mental illness, coordinating services for a client group, facilitating community engagement, providing psycho-education to clients and carers and promoting recovery and psychosocial rehabilitation. Sonal specialises in implementing psychological and occupational therapy interventions.
Sonal has an effortless way of establishing rapport with all concerned parties, encouraging collaborative rehabilitation planning and intervention. She is experienced in employing psychological strategies such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Brief Solutions Focused Therapy, as well as implementing occupational therapy theories of client centeredness and Model of Human Occupation.
